Odell Means Ruth

Mrs. Odell Means Ruth, 91, formerly of 709 Arthur Blvd, Union, widow of Thomas Ruth, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Ruth was born on June 7, 1922, a daughter of the late John Smith and the late Jennie Lee Poole Smith. She was formerly employed with the New York School of Education as a School Aid. Mrs. Ruth was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Laura Good Smith of Brooklyn, New York and Betty Means McQuiller and husband Joe of Christianburg, Virginia; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, and 3 great-great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Morris Gallman and three daughters, Ruby Samuels, Essie Means and Elizabeth Means. Funeral services will held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 904 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, SC conducted by Rev. James E. Tillotson. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers and flower bearers will be Mrs. Ruth's grandchildren.. Visitation will be held Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and also Hospice Care of South Carolina for the wonderful care given to their mother and grandmother. The family is at the home of her grandson, Tommy Rodgers, 520 Toluca Street, Union, SC.
