Mrs. Opal Mitchell Sanders, age 100 of Pleasant View Dr, Union, widow of Willie S. Sanders, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 13, 2023, at Union Medical Center.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Spartanburg Co., November 21, 1922, a daughter of the late Alma Mitchell Ashe. She was the currently the oldest member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Senior Sunday School class and was a choir member. She also served as chairperson of the Worship Committee and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Sanders was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was the love of her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Willa Cannon and husband Lenox of Spartanburg, and Alice Hooper and husband Donald of Union; grandchildren, Heather Crawford and husband Jeff, Alex LeBron, Brian Hooper and wife Whitney and Susan Paschall; and great-grandchildren, Jay and Hillary Crawford, Jenna and Jamie Hess, Hannah Paschall, Austin Paschall, Henry Hooper, Charlie Hooper and Brader French.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Heartland/ProMedica, Union Medical Center and Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Mrs. Sanders and her family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:30 until 3:30 PM at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be Brian Hooper, Jay Crawford, Alex LeBron, Jamie Hess, Austin Paschall and Robert Edwards.
