Patsy Jane Middlebrooks Austin

Jane Austin age 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 16, 2026, after an extended illness.

Born in Union, SC she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Lois Rymer Middlebrooks. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James E. Austin and an infant son, Richard Tyler, a sister, Joyce Vanderford and brother-in-law, Charles (Buddy) Vanderford

Jane was a graduate of Union High School. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years with Ginger’s Beauty Shop and then from her home until she retired.

Jane had a deep love for music and found great joy in singing and playing the piano and violin, often sharing her gifts with her church family. She was in the Mon Aetna Baptist Church Choir and served many years as the Choir Director at Morningside Baptist Church in Union and Salem Baptist Church in Santuc, South Carolina.

She also loved handcrafts. She was an expert knitter and crocheter, making many blankets and garments for friends and loved ones. Jane won many ribbons at the Union County Fair throughout the years for her knitting and crochet items. She was a woman of many talents and used those talents in service to others. Jane taught Sunday School at Salem Baptist Church and Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Darrell (Kelly) Austin of Union and Mark (Robin) Austin of West Columbia, SC; a sister, Myra Middlebrooks of Union; five grandchildren, Grayson Austin, Heather Austin Hancock, Olivia Austin Underwood, Chase Austin, and Cade Austin; and nine great-grandchildren, Bradley, Avery, Sage, Mika, Harper, Jaxson, Haisley, Harley, and Evo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Tom Tucker. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jay Coffer, Kevin Harris, Shannon Austin, Vince Vanderford, Allen Owens, and Luke Hancock.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.
