Rev. Paul T. Childers

Rev. Paul T. Childers, age 86, of Lockhart, widower Sarah Lawson Childers, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Union Medical Center.

Rev. Childers was born January 15, 1936 in Union, a son of the late O.C. Childers and Lillie Mae Lowery Childers.  He was retired from Torrington and retired as a Pastor after 45 years having served, Bethel Free Will Baptist Church of Fort Mill, Carmel Free Will Baptist Church of York, Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church of Chester, Damascus Free Will Baptist Church of Conway, First Free Will Baptist Church of Woodruff and Calvary Free Will Baptist Church of Union.  Rev. Childers had also served in the South Carolina National Guard.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Rev. Brian Childers and wife Gina of Lyman; a daughter, Ginger Vinson of Union; three grandchildren, Brina Childers, Ivy Smith and husband Trey, and Tania Cabaniss; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Cabaniss and Abby Rose Smith.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Paulette Childers; a grandson, Kenny Cabaniss; and two sisters, Loretta Lemons and Louise Lowery.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sam Baine, Rev. Brian Childers, Rev. Kenneth Cash, and Rev. Ralph Byars.  Burial will follow at Lockhart Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Wayne Baldwin, Troy Vaughan, Logan Vanderford, Michael McCloud, Scott Roark, Michael Fleming, and Trey Smith.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.
