Mrs. Peggy "Becky" Ledford Blackwood, 73 of Union, SC began her eternal vacation with her Savior on Thursday, September 15, 2022. She was the beloved wife and caregiver of her husband Johnny Earl Blackwood for 57 years. She was known as Spark to him.
Mrs. Blackwood was born in York, SC to the late Albert Ledford and the late Peggy King Ledford Amerto, and the late Michael Amerto. She graduated from Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. She was formerly employed at Her Majesty, Conso, Wallace Thompson Hospital, Oakmont of Union, JP Stevens, and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is where she met her best friend, the late Betty Becknell. She was co-owner of J&B Trucking from which she retired. Mrs. Blackwood was a life-long and faithful Prayer Warrior to her family, community, and her church, Faith Community COG, formerly known as Union Church of God. She loved reading her Bible, praying each day and listening to gospel music, especially The Detty Sisters. She enjoyed spending time daily in God's word and praying for others. Another one of favorite things to do was to watch Hallmark Mysteries Movies with her loving husband, Sparkie.
Mrs. Blackwood enjoyed being a mama to three daughters, Rebecca "Becky" (Mark) Murphy, of Union, Pamela (Charles "Buddy") Roberts of Union, and the late Angela (Tim) Phillips, who resides in Heaven. She was well known as Nanny to Justin Burton, Megan Roberts, and Ada (Lance) Kitchens, Rylan (Kayla) Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Tiffany Reid (Thomas), Dalton (Josie) Murphy and predeceased by Joshua Burton, Courtney, Meleana, and Kinsleigh Phillips. She was also GREAT NANNY to Emma Kay and Heidi Kitchens, Kyleigh Reid, Thomas-James Scott, Nevaeh and Haiden Murphy, Carolina, Ava, and Rylan Johnson. She was a devoted sister and best friend to her sister, Gloria Dean Dodd of GA (the late Larry) and her brother Michael Amerto, NC. She was a favorite and caring Aunt to many of her nieces and nephews. She loved her fur Grand baby, Princess China Marie Burton and her Grand Fur Babies Cooper, Tank, Bella, and Alfredo. She was predeceased by three brothers Raymond (Evelyn, which she considers her best friend and sister not a sister-in-law) Ledford, Tommy (Linda) Ledford, and Roy (Sharon) Ledford.
The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to the staff of Crescent Hospice (Union) and the Women and Men of Faith Community COG for the fellowship they shared with their mom during her illness.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Faith Community COG (formerly Union Church of God) 1113 Thompson Boulevard, Union, SC, conducted by Bishop Steven McAbee and Rev. Rylan Johnson (grandson). Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Donnie Crawford, David Goins, Eddie Goins, Lance Kitchens, Ray Ledford, Doug McCormick, Matthew Murphy, Thomas Scott, Dalton Murphy, and Derek Worley.
Visitation will be held from 2 pm –3 pm Sunday, September 18, 2022, prior to the service at the church.
