Phillip Michael Burgess

Mr. Phillip Michael Burgess, age 28 husband of Kimberly Denise Morrison Burgess, formerly of Union, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015. Phillip rededicated his life to the Lord a few short weeks ago and is now resting in his Heavenly home. Mr. Burgess was born in Spartanburg, SC on October 9, 1986 a son of Thomas Brett Burgess and Frances Cody Burgess. He was a 2005 graduate of Lockhart High School and a graduate of Greenville Tech where he earned a degree as a Sleep Technician. Mr. Burgess was currently employed with Mary Black Hospital in the Sleep Study Department. He was active in the US Army Reserve as an E-4 Specialist in the 332nd Medical Brigade out of Greensboro, NC. Mr. Burgess was a NPC Body Builder. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Josie Claire Burgess of the home; a son, Mason Grindstaff of the home; a sister, Lydia Burgess Conrad and husband Charles of Sharon; two brothers, Johnathan Burgess and Andrew Burgess of Union; his maternal grandfather, Rev. John Cody of Union; his paternal grandfather, Charles Burgess and wife Linda of Jacksonville, AL; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Maxine Cody and his paternal grandmother, Alice Estes Burgess. Phillip was a wonderful father, loving husband, devoted son that loved his family and friends. He enjoy spending time with his family, body building, fishing, vacations and church. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Greater Union Church conducted by the Rev. Roger Estes. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be Adam Parkins, Jamison Knox, Mooky Black, Chistopher Cody, Brandon Cody, Mitch Henderson, Chris Treadwell, and Paul Walker. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the church. Memorials may be made to Greater Union Church Youth Camp, 331 Meansville Road, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of his parents, 144 Lydia Trail, Jonesville, SC 29353.
