Mr. Phillip Lewis "Shine" Ward, age 78, of 117 City View Circle, Union, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Ward was born in Union, April 3, 1946, a son of the late Paul and Ruth Hardin Ward. He retired after 20 years with the Union County Recreation Department. Mr. Ward was a member of McCutchen Presbyterian Church and was a big Carolina Gamecock fan. He loved helping others any way he could and was an avid softball player having played all over the United States.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Hill Prince of the home; a daughter, Tiffany Robertson and husband Reggie of Union; a son, Chris Ward and wife Mandy of Indiana; a sister, Mary "Sis" Vaughan of Woodruff; and a brother, Steve Ward and wife Rachel of Union. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jonathan Adams, Cori Ward, Walker Ward, Waverly Ward and Arabella Cody and great grandchildren, Jaxon Adams, Rada Moss, Mekelle Moss and Cash Moss. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Cody, a sister, Betty "Bett" Ward; and five brothers, Gene Ward, Bob Ward, Kenneth "Nip" Ward, Tony Ward and Jerry "Jabo" Ward.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.
Active pallbearers will be Heath Ward, Ted "Rooster" Burris, Jonathan Adams, Robert Queen, Gerald Alman, William "Bugg" Turner and Junior Wilburn.
All former softball teammates along with Michael Fleming, Bobby Greer, Matthew Moss and Cody Dickard are asked to serve as the honorary escort.
