Mrs. Polly Ann Lawson Smith, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17th, 2018 surrounded by her family. Polly, born May 10, 1937, was a daughter of the late Robert Floyd Lawson and Lola Brooks Lawson. She was proud to have been born and raised in Buffalo, SC. She attended Buffalo Baptist Church for almost thirty years. It was during those years that she accepted Jesus as her Savior, sang alto in the choir, and learned to play the piano. For the rest of her life, she honored God with her talents. Polly met her future husband, Wayne, at Union High School when they were only fifteen. One month after high school graduation, in June of 1955, they married. Polly and Wayne made their home in Union, where they raised their children and spoiled their grandchildren. Polly spent her life serving the Lord. She ministered as a Sunday school teacher, Training Union teacher, Bible school worker, church pianist, and most recently, as a choir member at Fairview Baptist Church. Polly loved singing gospel music with her family and friends, and "Pretty Polly" could be heard every Sunday morning on WBCU for many years. Mrs. Smith loved her family fiercely and was affectionately called "Nanny" by her grandchildren. She leaves many loving memories to be cherished by her husband Wayne, a son Ronnie Smith, a daughter Rhonda Hollingsworth and husband Terry; grandchildren: Kelly Watson and husband Shaun, Clayton Smith and wife Catie, Coley Smith and wife Alaina; six great- grandchildren, Sophiya Smith, Izabella Smith, Amelia Smith, Easton Smith, Sawyer Watson and Hadley Watson. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by an infant daughter Deborah Annette, three brothers: Charles, Danny, and Harold Lawson, and a sister, Bebe L. Malpass. Proverbs 31:10 asks, "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." Polly Smith was a woman like that described in Proverbs 31. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church led by Ministers Rev. Ross Wilson, Rev. Guy Langston, and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Clayton Smith, Coley Smith, Shaun Watson, Ken Smith, David Lawson, Tim Lawson, & Mitch Lawson. The following are asked to sit in a group: James and Linda Hearn, Wayne and Cathy Nations, and choir members of Fairview Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 on Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 763 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of her daughter, Rhonda Hollingsworth, 514 Fairview Church Circle, Union. Recently, a sweet soul asked what type of work our mother did. As we began to reflect on her life, we knew that the world would be a better place if all people did the work our mother/grandmother, wife did. Mama was a faithful, loving wife. She was so proud of Daddy and took great care of him. Mama took her responsibility to raise her children for the Lord very seriously. She read Bible stories at night to us and took us to church every time the door was open. She welcomed our friends and all of the neighborhood children to our house and always served cookies and Kool-Aid.
