Rachel G. Howell

Mrs. Rachel Gregory Howell, age 86, of Union SC, the wife of Donald Hope Howell, passed away January 3, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Howell was born, May 11, 1936 in Monarch to the late Ben and Lavern Moore Gregory. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Howell was also an active member of Browns Creek Baptist where she sang in the choir, worked in the nursery, was very involved in VBS, a church hostess, a member of the Adult Ladies SS Class and was a vital part of the Building and Grounds Committee when the present church was built. Mrs. Rachel was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and feed her family, especially after church on Sundays.

Surviving, in addition to her husband Donald of 70 years, are sons Donald Hope "Donnie" Howell Jr of Union and Terry Lynn Howell and wife Diana of Inman. She is also survived by a sister Grace Nave. Surviving grandchildren are Heather Hope Bower (Bill), Chadwick Howell, Fran H. Bailey and Dustin Wright (Heather). Great grandchildren are Hunter Bailey, Brianna Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Caleb Harlem, Jada Howell, Claire Bower, Luke Bower, Kendall Wright and Logan Wright. Mrs. Howell was predeceased by a grandson, Talmadge DeWitt Howell, a daughter-in-law, Theresia Howell and a sister, Bennie Crisp.

Funeral services will be Friday January 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Browns Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shawn Head. Hunter Bailey, Luke Bower, Caleb Harlem, Chadwick Howell, Curtis Plexico and Ronnie Lamb have been asked to serve as pallbearers. The Adult Ladies' Sunday School Class and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class has been asked to attend as Honorary Pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service at the church.
