Ralph M. Jones Carlisle, Sc

Mr. Ralph M. "Deacon" Jones, age 82, husband of Norma Sams Jones of 181Tom Kelly Circle, Carlisle, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum. Mr. Jones was born in Asheville, NC, the son of the late Samuel M. and Ida Leah Laughter Jones. He was a graduate of Woodfin High School in Asheville and attended the Asheville-Biltmore College. Mr. Jones retired after 30 years with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and had coached the Elks team in Dixie Youth Baseball in the 1970's. Mr. Jones was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are three sons, Stuart Jones and wife Laura of Spartanburg, Stephen Jones and wife Julie of Salisbury, NC and Stacey Jones and wife Jill of Rock Hill; a daughter, Angie Jones Lawson and fiancée Mike Hill of Union; seven grandchildren, Whitney Blake Jones and fiancée Kris Mann of Tuscaloosa, AL, Nathan and Aaron Jones of New York, NY, Thaddeus Jones of Spartanburg, Connor and Olivia Westbrook of Rock Hill, and Samuel Lawson and his father Jeff Lawson of Union; and a special friend, Clarence Sanders of Union. Mr. Jones was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Jones Penland and two brothers, Roy and Ray Jones. A celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2014 at Salem Baptist Church, 1835 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, conducted by Rev. Jim Wiseman, Rev. Stuart Jones and Rev. Rick Gunter. Mr. Jones' Carlisle neighbors and employees of Cone Mill are asked to sit in a group. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, Kitchen Fund, c/o Debbie O'Daniel, 330 Santuc Dr., Union, SC 29379 or to the Hospice of the Carolina Foothill, 260 Fairwinds Rd., Landrum, SC 29356. The family will be at the home, 181 Tom Kelly Rd., Carlisle, SC.
