Mr. Raymond Alton “Ray” Burgess, age 62, of Second St., Union, widower of Beverly Monique Childers Burgess, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Burgess was born in Union, November 25, 1963, a son of the late Lillian Beheler Schrader and husband Frank and the late Larry Burgess and wife Jean. He was a graduate of Union High School and had formerly worked for Rhino Security. Ironically, he worked as a security guard at the Clemson football games while being a big fan of the Carolina Gamecocks. Mr. Burgess was retired from the South Carolina National Guard and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife whom he dearly missed.

Surviving are two sons, James Burgess and wife Christina of Union and Raymond Burgess, Jr. and wife Tara of Spartanburg; two sisters, Sherri Schrader of Lockhart and Jennifer Hines and husband Chris of Spartanburg and grandchildren, Leilynn Burgess, Ethan Burgess, Kyra Burgess and Carolina Burgess. He was predeceased by a daughter Jessica Burgess, a sister, Jeanie Schrader Belue and brother, Larry “Shorty” Burgess, Jr.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ray Burgess Fund, PO Box 148, Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at their respective homes.
