January 20, 2018 Mr. Reeder Albert Norman, age 97, of 116 Hillcrest Dr., Union, widower of Allyne Teal Norman, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at his home. Mr. Norman was born in Doniphan, MO, May 7, 1920, a son of the late James Albert Norman and Lena Moerlien Norman. He was retired from the US Postal Service with over 38 years of service and was a retired Master Sergeant for the US Army Reserves with 35 years of service, both while in Miami, FL. MSG Norman was on active duty the entire duration of the war (1941-1945), receiving 5 Bronze Stars for his participation in the following campaigns: Normandy, Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland and Northern France. He was with the 83rd Reconnaissance Troop at the Battle of the Bulge (Hurtgen Forest) with the 331st Infantry serving in Gey and Strass, Germany. Mr. Norman was the oldest WWII veteran in Union Co., SC at the time of his passing. Mr. Norman was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He was a 12-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross and was the oldest of eight children. Surviving are two daughters: Susan Cole of Norman, OK and Julie Comer and husband Danny of Union; one sister: Florence Smith and husband J.L. of Garland, TX; seven grandchildren: Lori Hodges (Brent) of Charlotte, NC, Josh Comer (Amber) of Roebuck, Amy Queen (Pat) of Pauline, Jason Jeans (Kim) of Dover, DE, Jessica Ott (Thomas) of Oklahoma City, OK, Angeline Cole of Oklahoma, and Adrian Cole of Gainesville, FL; nine great-grandchildren: Abby Queen, Elijah Comer, Emery Grace Comer, Landrie Hodges, Tyson, Turner, Thompson, Tate Ott and Jakobe Jeans. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford, Rev. Sam Baine and Chaplain Jeff Dean. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday at the church prior to the services. The following are asked to sit in a group for the services: the staff and nurses of Crescent Hospice, Tonya Brewington, Ashley Faltermeier, Lindsay Liner, Barbara Bobo, Demetri Lindsay and the family would like to express a special "Thank You" to all of them for their love and care of Mr. Norman during his illness. Full Military Honors will be rendered at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, P.O.
