Robert W. “Bob” Gist

April 24, 2016 Mr. Robert Wylie "Bob" Gist, age 92, husband of Helen Foster Gist of 305 Springdale Drive, Union, SC., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gist was born in West Springs on September 21, 1923, a son of the late David Christopher Gist and Claudia Wylie Gist. He was Graduate of West Springs High School and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. Mr. Gist retired from Parker Furniture after 25 years. He was a devoted member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, the Men's Club, Merry Methodist and held various offices within the church. Mr. Gist was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert W. Gist, Jr. of Elgin and Ronald Lee Gist of Union; 5 grandchildren, Amanda Yendall and husband Aaron of Union, Adrien Looper and husband Tim of Pickens, Amber Gist Laney and husband Brian of Kent, Ohio, Courtenay Alexis Gist of Charleston and Jedidiah Mahlon Gist of Clemson University; 2 great-granddaughters, Avery Elise Laney and Claire Looper ; 5 great-grandsons, Aeon Yendall, Adyn Yendall, Ethan Looper, Jacob Looper and Reese Looper. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, Duncan Acres United Methodist church, P.O. Box 216, Union, SC. 29379. The family will be at the home, 305 Springdale Drive, Union, SC 29379.
