Ronald A. Henderson

Mr. Ronald A. Henderson, age 70, husband of Norma Kingsmore Henderson of 804 Riley Rd., Buffalo, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his home. Mr. Henderson was born in Spartanburg, June 3, 1945, a son of the late M.Y. Henderson and Nina Cohen Henderson. He was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Henderson was retired from the SC Dept. of Corrections and formerly owned and operated Henderson Plumbing. He was a veteran of the US Marines having served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Henderson was an active member of Covenant Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and Choir Director. He was a former member of Buffalo Baptist Church for 35 years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, leader of Vacation Bible School and taught the Men's Sunday School Class. He also had been active with the Sunday School ministry at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home for 12 years. Mr. Henderson was a private airplane pilot for over 40 years and had served on the Union Co. Airport Board. He had coached Little League Football and Baseball and loved to fish and fly planes. Mr. Henderson was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, David Henderson of Union; two daughters, Amy H. Gunter and husband Michael of Lexington, and Emily H. Ryan and husband Jason of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Faye H. Moss and husband Rufus of Atlanta; a brother, Ken Henderson of Union; six grandchildren, Tyler Gunter, Ethan Gunter, Jacob Gunter, Bethany Henderson, Alexa Ryan and Elias Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special great-niece, Olivia Long. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by a brother, Bob Henderson. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke, Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. Lynn Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe and Phyllis Haney, Doug and Gail Johnson, Henry and Patsy Payne, David Yarborough, Pat Long, Mike Phillips, Dennis Millwood and the staff and nurses of Blue Ridge Hospice. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
