April 1, 2016 Rose Thompson Chewning, 79, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 while resting comfortably at her home. She was born March 9, 1937 in Manning, SC to the late Lester and Daisy Brunson Thompson. She was a graduate of Manning High School and Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Chewning was the wife of the late Reginald C. Chewning and they made Union their home since 1958. Mrs. Chewning was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Circle #2. She was a past president and sustaining member of Union Junior Charity League. She was also a member of the Union Arts Counsel and Union Historical Society. She worked as a registered nurse for many years and was an avid bridge player. In addition to her late husband she was preceded in death by a son Reginald (Reggie) Chewning, Jr. Surviving her are a son Kenneth D. Chewning, 51, of Union and her beloved daughter-in-law Karyn (Chewning) Taylor and and her husband Jeffrey Taylor and their two daughters, Katie Rose and Caroline Michelle Taylor of Mount Pleasant, SC. Anyone wishing to pay their respects, may do so Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th , at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home between the hours of 9:00 until 5:00 PM. She will be layed to rest at a private graveside service conducted by Reverend Keith Morrison of the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Chewning may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Union, 101 W. South Street, Union, SC 29379.
