February 5, 2016 Mr. Roy Lee "Snake" Smith, age 88, husband of Peninnah Hopkins Smith, of Buffalo, passed away on February 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by family after a long illness. Mr. Smith was born in Buffalo on December 23, 1927 a son of the late JB and Fannie Smith. He served in the US Army, in the motor pool stationed in the Philippines and also qualified as a sharpshooter. Mr. Smith worked in the textile, construction and pulpwood industries and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Kaye Smith of Buffalo, Linda Massey and husband Jeff of Boiling Springs, Betty Sue Ivey and husband Terry of Union, Patricia "Tish" Carry and husband Bill of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren, Kassie Thompson, Chad Medford and wife Charlene, Chris Medford and wife Brooke, Jessica Avery and husband TJ, Nic Massey, Jamie Ivey and wife Jan, Rocky Ivey and wife Erin, Billy Carry and James Carry; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma "Julie" Robinson. He was predeceased by four sisters, Mozelle Messer Bessie Kate Crisp, Kathleen Hopkins, and Minnie Turner and two brothers, Hollis Smith and James Smith. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Melvin Shelton. Visitation will be held after the graveside services in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The family is at the home, 573 Sugar Creek Road, Buffalo, SC 29321.
