Mrs. Ruby Estes Whitmire, age 87 widower of William “Billy” Calhoun Whitmire Jr., passed away Friday May 30, 2026. Surviving daughter, Beth (Rocky) Green and son, Bud Whitmire. One precious friend Alyson Williams. Two treasured granddaughters, Kayla and Grace. One grandson-in-love Will. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one granddaughter, Lou Anna.

Mrs. Whitmire was born on November 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Clarence and Minnie Lou Ivey Estes. Surviving a loving sister, Mary Pridemore. One brother-in-love, Charles W. Williams (Barbra). Two sisters-in-love, Rosa McDade Estes and Jean Estes. She was predeceased by seven brothers, David Jonathan Estes, Clarence William Estes Jr., George Monroe Estes, Charles Leroy Estes, Jerry Bruce Estes, Donald Eugene Estes, and Joe Wylie “J.W.” Estes; two sisters, Martha Mae Estes Williams and Laura Marian Estes. Mrs. Whitmire loved her brothers and sisters dearly.

She graduated from the High School of Union in 1959. She retired with 28 years of service from the City of Union. Mrs. Whitmire was a faithful member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Whitmire loved Jesus and devoted her life to her faith, her family, and caring for others. She shared a loving marriage of 54 years with her beloved husband, Billy, and treasured the life they built together. She was a devoted mother to Bud and Beth. She especially loved taking care of her son, Bud. She was proud of her daughter and granddaughters, who lovingly cared for her during the past year. She cherished her granddaughters, Kayla and Grace, and the special time they shared.

She loved cooking for her family and friends and gathering around the table with those she loved. A devoted fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Atlanta Braves, she rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her favorite teams. She especially enjoyed watching sports with her son Bud.

Coming from a large family of ten brothers and sisters, she valued family above all. Her faith, love, strength, and caring spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Carrol Caldwell.

Visitation will be held after the service at the graveside.
