June 14, 2015 Mrs. Rubye Gist Heatherly Howell, age 97, wife of William H. "Bill" Howell of 711 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nusing Home. Mrs. Howell was born in Union, March 18, 1918, a daughter of the late J.R. and Maggie Lancaster Gist. She had worked in textiles and in the auto industry in Michigan, where she and her husband made their home until retiring to Union in 1982. Mrs. Howell was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the A.G. Carter Sunday School Class and had volunteered with the Sunday dinners. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Floyd "Stump" Heatherly and wife Linda of Jonesville; a step-daughter, Teresa Upton and husband Marshall of Jonesville; a step-son, Gerald Howell and wife Stacey of Santuc; a sister, Francis Gist of Buffalo; special friend, Dot Gibson of Lockhart; a number of grand and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Howell was predeceased by a daughter, Betty H. Scales, a son, Jim Heatherly, a granddaughter, Melinda Kaye Heatherly, a step-son, Ricky Howell, a step-daughter, Tammy Howell, and three brothers, Barnett Gist, Hay Fant Gist and Carl Gist. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Scales, Kenneth McCraw, Allen Whitener, Billy Scales, Stanley Gallman and Kenneth Horne. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 until 2:00PM in the church fellowship hall prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 711 Pea Ridge Hwy. and at the home of her son, Floyd Heatherly, 542 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville.
