Ruth Shockley Roof

Mrs. Barbara Ruth Shockley Roof, age 88 wife of James G. Roof of 108 Bridletrail Lane, Union, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022.

Mrs. Roof was born in Union, September 9, 1933, a daughter of the late Joel and Viola Greer Shockley. She was a 1954 graduate of Furman University where she received her bachelor's degree in three years with a major in English. She retired after 20 years of teaching English in Spartanburg and Union counties. Ruth and her husband lived in Union for 30 years and previously in Spartanburg and Brevard, NC.

Mrs. Roof was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Clyburn/Whitner Sunday School class. She enjoyed traveling, reading and cooking.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 66 years are a daughter, Jamie Dalhouse and husband David; a son, Jon Roof and wife Renee; a brother, Donnie Shockley and wife Miriam; grandchildren, Stephen Lundquist, Caroline Lundquist, Malcolm Dalhouse and wife Katie, Taylor Feimster and husband Garrett and Ashley Roof and two great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by a grandson, James Samuel Dalhouse and younger brother, Joel Shockley.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Lee Phillips. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church immediately following the services.

Memorials in her memory made be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 201 S. Church St., Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at the home, 108 Bridletrail Lane, Union.
