Sammie Ridgeway Hicks

Sammie Crystal Ridgeway Hicks, 77, passed away on Saturday, August,14, 2021 at her home in Irmo, SC.  She was born in Union, SC, daughter of Miles Curtis Ridgeway and Sarah Elizabeth Hyatt Ridgeway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Errol Hicks; and a brother, Curtis Ridgeway Jr. of Columbia - Myrtle Beach, SC. Sammie is survived by a sister, Sarah-Ann Ridgeway Munn of Myrtle Beach, SC; five nieces and nephews: Cindy Ridgeway Murphy (Dan), Roger Curtis Ridgeway, Phyllis Ridgeway Blout (Harry), Richmond Hilton Munn, Melissa Miles Munn Houston (Dwayne); and ten great nieces and nephews.

Sammie graduated from Union High School in 1961 and Winthrop University in 1965 with a BS in Education. She taught at Foster Park Elementary a year before marrying Errol Hicks from Union, SC. They were stationed at many different US Air Force bases in the US and England, then retired to Columbia, where Sammie worked at the Commissary on Fort Jackson. Both she and Errol worked at the South Carolina Bookstore Wholesale Division. Sammie enjoyed being an active member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia for many years.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Union Memorial Gardens, 1720 Whitmire Hwy., Union, SC 29379.
