Samuel K. Cooke

Mr. Samuel Keith "Sammy" Cooke, age 65, husband of Cynthia Hogan Cooke of 405 Lakeview Heights, Union, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Heartland of Union. Mr. Cooke was born in Spartanburg, June 8, 1950, a son of Johnnie Jones West of Union and the late Montague West. He was retired from Gestamp in Union and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Mr. Cooke coached Dixie Youth and Recreation Dept. baseball for many years. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Monty L. Cooke and wife Tabitha and Jeffrey K. Cooke and wife Cherie all of Union; two sisters, Susan West Jones and husband Rip of Spartanburg and Sandra Smith and husband David of Union; one brothers, Rev. Wayne Cooke and wife Elaine of Union; five grandchildren, Hunter Madison Cooke, Holden Patrick Cooke, Devan Keith Cooke, Jeremy Adam Cooke and Katie Elizabeth Cooke; a step-sister, Mary Jane Emmons of Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dennis Trammell, Thomas Trammell, Tommy Calhoun, Gary West, Todd Fink, Jimmy Sykes, Hubert Sanders and Dennis Blanton. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home of his son, Monty and Tabitha Cooke, 203 Lakeview Heights, Union.
