Sandra Timmons Whitaker

January 6, 2018 Mrs. Sandra Timmons Whitaker, age 82, wife of Charles A. Whitaker of 101 Rosewood Terrace, Union, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Whitaker was born in Union, May 24, 1935, a daughter of the late Melvin D. Timmons, Sr. and Helen Strahley Timmons. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Limestone College. Mrs. Whitaker retired from the Union Co. School District where she had worked in the library of Union Co. High School for over 20 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was active in her church and community as long as her health permitted. Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Helen W. Mayo and husband Gregg of Birmingham, AL and Cynthia W. Cordivari and husband Bill of Basking Ridge, NJ; one son, Charles A. Whitaker, II of Union; a sister, Beverly T. Jordan and husband Louis, Sr. of Union; a brother, Melvin D. Timmons, Jr. and wife Beth of Anderson; six grandchildren: Kyle T. Mayo and his wife Jenna, Kurt W. Mayo, Andrew D. Cordivari, Raquel R. Cordivari, Tara Whitaker and Heather Whitaker and three great-grandchildren: Hudson T. Mayo, Madison Belle Mayo, and Seth Jones. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church following the graveside services. Memorials may be made to the Union Co. Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 951, Union, SC 29379 or to Grace United Methodist Church, Back Pack Ministry or Secret Santa Program, 201 S. Church St., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 101 Rosewood Terrace, Union.
