Sara L. Matthews

Mrs. Sara Lanier Matthews, age 86, wife of Jerry L. Matthews of 144 Hames Ave., Jonesville, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026 at her home.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Union, September 22, 1939, a daughter of the late Kennan and Stella Quinn Lanier. She was retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant and had also sold Avon products. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Buffalo Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Susan Stepp of Chester and Tammy Elliott and husband Richard of Pickens; and two brothers, Wade Lanier, Sr. and Virginia of Simpsonville and Jerry Lanier and wife Melissa of Monarch. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stefanie Blanton (Dustin), Paul Teague (Candace), Chris Elliott (Heather), Candace Moore, Josh Elliott (Keiana) Kenny Blanton and Caylee Whitlock; and great grandchildren, Maddox, Braeden, Summer, Jace, Jason, Cole, Hunter, Scarlett, Hazel, Aubrey, Azzie, Desmond, Roman and Alexandria.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Buffalo Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jeff Farmer and Rev. Richard Lewis. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

The family will be at the home, 144 Hames Ave., Jonesville.
