Sylvia H. Rhymer

August 3, 1945 — March 30, 2023

Union, SC

Sylvia Hardin Rhymer, age 77, of 1011 Monarch Highway, Union, was welcomed to Heaven on Thursday, March 30 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Rhymer was born August 3, 1945, the daughter of the late Lucille Boyette Hardin of Green Sea, SC and Homer Hardin of Lumberton, NC. She leaves behind the love of her life James Fletcher Rhymer, her husband of 46 years. Sylvia and Jim were married November 17, 1979 at Grace United Methodist Church. She later became a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Rhymer also leaves behind two daughters, Jessica Rhymer of Charleston, SC and Kristi Kicklighter and husband Brackley of Hendersonville, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren Jordyn and Jayson Hills, Ley, Scott, and Annah Kicklighter. She will also be missed by her sister, Sondra Branch (Lenny) and their son Len and a brother Avery Hardin and his son Michael (Jennifer).  Mrs. Rhymer is also survived by Jim's step son Robby Holsclaw and his wife Tracey She also leaves behind several step grandchildren and other great nephews that she loved very deeply. She was predeceased by her sister, Wanda Hardin.

Sylvia held several positions as an administrative assistant, but the one that she spoke of the most was her time with the narcotics division of the Charleston County Police Department. She loved to share the story of Mindy, the drug dog that didn't like anyone, but laid at her feet in the office when she wasn't in service. Sylvia was a lover of animals, people, walking on the beach, needle point, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. She was always ready with a smile and to extend the hand of friendship.

Sylvia and Jim lived in Charleston, SC before moving to Boiling Springs, SC before finally coming home to the Rhymer family farm in Union, SC. Like a true low country girl, her heart never left the ocean. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 3, 2023 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Chris Pace. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

The family will be at the home 1011 Monarch Highway.
