Mr. Terry Lynn Howell, age 72, husband of Diana Hutcherson Howell, of Inman passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Mr. Howell was born in Union, April 11, 1953, a son of Donald Hope Howell and the late Rachel Gregory Howell, and he lived a life marked by service, loyalty and quiet strength. He enlisted in the United States Army right after graduating from Union High School, proudly serving his country with honor.  He later retired from the Army National Guard, carrying with him a deep sense of duty, discipline and commitment. In addition to his military service, he also served his local community as a volunteer firefighter with the Buffalo Fire Department. Mr. Howell spent many years working in Production Management and recently retired from his career as a Scheduler with Shutterfly-United Healthcare.  He had varied interests in life which included hiking, running, bowling, golf (which his family stated that he was never very good at but enjoyed), and was a PADI certified scuba diver. Terry loved to socialize and especially loved going on cruises. He also had a great love of music that he shared with his son and grandson, ranging from Rock, Blues and Jazz. Mr. Howell was a member of Brown's Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, and later became a member of the Congregational Church of Tryon, NC.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father, are a daughter, Heather Bower and her husband, Bill of Taylors, a son, Chadwick Howell of Greenville, and a stepson, Dustin Wright and his wife Heather of Landrum. He is also survived by his grandchildren (who were his pride and joy), Caleb Harlem, Jada Howell, Claire Bower, Luke Bower, Kendall Wright, and Logan Wright, a brother Donald Howell, Jr., an aunt, Grace Nave, a niece, Fran Howell Bailey and his former wife, Deborah Echols Howell.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Howell was predeceased by a nephew, Talmadge Howell, and a sister-in-law, Theresia Howell.  He also leaves behind extended family and friends who will remember him for his humor, calm presence and deep commitment to those he loved.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2025, at The Congregational Church, UCC of Tryon, 210 Melrose Ave., Tryon, NC, conducted by Rev. Meghan Young and Rev. John Lee. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, 310 W. South Street, Union, SC. The family will also receive friends following the memorial service in the Congregational Church Fellowship Hall.
