January 16, 2016 Mr. Theron Eugene "Curly" Carter, age 85, husband of Virginia Black "Gen" Carter of 202 Wilbur St., Union, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mr. Carter was born in Union, July 23, 1930, a son of the late Harold and Ruth Alman Carter and Millie Turner Carter. He was retired from United Merchants, having worked in the Union Plant and the Conway Plant. He was member of New Life Baptist Church where had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a Greeter. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Donna Carter Bodie and husband Carl of Conway; a son, Danny Carter of Union; granddaughters, Dana Carter Privette of Murrells Inlet, Kelly Carter Skaggs and husband Andrew of Columbia, and Gennifer and Kaytie Bodie of Conway; a great-granddaughter, Luna Skaggs of Columbia; three sisters, Margie Cannon of Union, Mary Upton and husband Carroll of Buffalo and Ruth Robinson of Jonesville; three brothers, Dean Carter, Francis Carter and wife Linda all of Union and Bobby Carter and wife Janice of Buffalo, a brother-in-law, Dean Black and wife Mavis of Applevalley, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Carter was predeceased by a brother, J.T. Carter and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Carter. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 17, 2016 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Ron Culbertson and Rev. Steve Lemons. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Robert Williams, Paul Sanders, Bruce Davis, Alan Davis, Steve Bradburn, Tim Bradburn, Ronnie Carter, and Ricky Black. The following are asked to assemble at the church 2:45PM Sunday to form the honorary escort, members of the Senior Adult Men's Class and current and former Deacons of New Life Baptist Church, Florence Meador, Pearl Crocker, Clarence Anderson, Eddie Hearn, Harvey Belue, Joey Gregory, Renee Whitmore, Melissa Smith, Pat Brewington, and Charlie Seese. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 502 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379.
