Mr. Thomas Hampton Ivey, age 79, husband of Rita Ivey of Jonesville, passed away June 11, 2026.
Tommy was born in Union, March 25, 1947, a son of the late Elmos and Ada Ivey and was a graduate of Jonesville High School. He lived a life of dedication, courage, and service to his community, state, and country.
Tommy was a respected firefighter and leader whose career spanned decades of public service. He was an instructor at the South Carolina Fire Academy helping train and mentor future generations of firefighters and served with distinction as a Wildland Firefighter with the United States Forest Service. He also served proudly as Chief of the Jonesville Fire Department and as Fire Commander of the City of Spartanburg. Tommy also served in the South Carolina National Guard.
Throughout his remarkable career, Tommy earned many honors recognizing his dedication and contributions. He was awarded the prestigious Order of the Palmetto and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the South Carolina Fire Academy. He was also a proud member of American Legion Post 129.
Tommy will be remembered by his wife Rita; his step sons, Cam Robinson and Clint Robinson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Robinson; his cherished grandchildren, Carson Robinson and Carter Robinson, and his special friends Terry and Tonya Holmes.
He was known for his strength, leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched both in the fire service and throughout his community.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and support provided to Tommy and his family during his final days. Their kindness, professionalism, and dedication brought peace and dignity during a difficult time and will always be remembered with gratitude. Special thanks to Michelle Ellis, Connor Brown and Amy Bunch.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel, 145 Hames Ave., Jonesville, conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Sunday at the chapel prior to the services. Burial will follow at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Fowler, Ricky McKinney, Jamie Morris, Kyle Pileggi, Barry Tweed and Craig Wilkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jonesville Fire Department, PO Box 940, Jonesville, SC 29353.
