Vera Tucker Berry

Mrs. Vera Tucker Berry, age 93 of 107 Excelsior Avenue, Union, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Berry was the widow of John H. Berry. Mrs. Berry was born January 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Barksdale A. Tucker and Lillian Shirley Tucker. She was formerly employed in Textiles and was a homemaker. Mrs. Berry was a faithful member of Welcome Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters: Carrie Davis and husband Steve, Carolyn Stepp and husband Roger and Shirley Berry; a son, Gene Berry and wife Susie; a sister, Frances T. Addison all of Union; three half-sisters: Janice Tucker of Chesterfield, Tammy Tucker of Rockingham, NC and Belinda Tucker of Monroe, NC; nine grandchildren: Crystal B. Earls and husband Jackie, David E. Berry and wife Melanie, Amy M. Stepp and husband Mike, Stephen D. Berry, J. Brian Berry and wife Crystal, S. Lance Davis and wife Amy, S. Lee Davis and wife Kacie, Buffy McKeown and husband Jimmy and Michelle Betenbaugh; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Berry was predeceased by a sister, Marie T. Kyzer; a grandaughter, Stephanie Davis; a great-grandson and three step-brothers, Jimmy Tucker, Junior Tucker and William Tucker. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis, Rev. David Berry and Mr. Josh Berry. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Billy Ledford, M. Scott Sain, Mike Chastain, Tommy Lane, Buddy Parris and Matt Cooper. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers, Buddy Thomas, Scott Sain and Mike Lawson. Members of Mrs. Berry's Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the church. Memorials may be made to Welcome Baptist Church, 206 Nichols Avenue, Union, SC 29379. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Blue Ridge Hospice for their care of Mrs. Berry. The family will be at the home, 107 Excelsior Avenue, Union.
