Mrs. Vera Cook Petty, age 87, of 1011 E. Main Street, Pacolet, widow of John Ray Petty, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Mrs. Petty was born in Spartanburg on December 8, 1924 a daughter of the Dewey Cook and Minnie Bryant Cook. She was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Ann P. Upton and husband Paul and Tammy P. Thompson and husband Rick all of Pacolet; a son, Lantis Petty of Pacolet; four sisters, Margaret Byrd of Spartanburg, Loree Hodges of Pacolet, Geraldine Ellison of Hartsville, and Betty Jo Howell of Pacolet; a brother, Harold Dean Cook of Honea Path; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Jimmy and Helen Cochran, Becky Pruitt and husband Curt, and June and Bruce Pace all of Pacolet. She was predeceased by two brothers, Foy Cook and Huston Cook. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Tate Memorial Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dennis Tessnier and Chaplain David Boyter. Burial will follow at Pacolet United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Petty's grandsons and great grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 Saturday prior to the services at the church. Memorials be made to Pacolet United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 427, Pacolet, SC 29372.
