Virgil D. Henderson, Jr.

Mr. Virgil David Henderson, Jr., age 85, 486 Bogan Rd., West Springs community, Jonesville, widower of Dorothy Elizabeth Gowan Henderson, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Henderson was born in Union, May 4, 1928, a son of the late Virg and Lillie Bell Greer Henderson. He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken and Co., after 40 years. Mr. Henderson worked with both Ottaray and Monarch Plants as a supervisor. He was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Club and the Joy Club. He also was a member of the Walking Club at West Springs Baptist Church. A veteran of the US Army Air Corp, Mr. Henderson served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Surviving are two sons, Wayne Henderson and wife June and David Henderson and wife Jackie all of West Springs; three sisters, Clorice Mayo and Lucille Hooper both of Union, and Artmina Martin and husband Buck of Clinton; one brother, Donald Henderson and wife Ann of Lake Murray, four grandchildren, Mica Duncan and husband Tripp, Mindy Tyler and husband Michael, Misty Henderson and Emily Gibson and husband Michael; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Don Alexander and Rev. Greg Black. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the following members of the New Life Sunday School Class at Bogansville United Methodist Church, Bob Redman, Ray Vinson, Russ Stevens, Steve Lawson, Jeff Lawson, Donnie Ray Bogan, Kenny West, and Tim Stevens. Member's of the Men's Club and Joy Club of Bogansville United Methodist Church and the members of the Walking Club of West Springs Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 Sunday at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Bogansville United Methodist Church, 4052 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, SC 29353. The family will be at the home of his son, Wayne and June Henderson, 469 Bogan Rd., West Springs community, Jonesville.
