Virginia R. Smith

March 24, 2015 Mrs. Virginia Louise Reid Smith, age 82, of 726 N. Duncan ByPass, Union, widow of Curtis Cecil Smith, Sr., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Union, June 28, 1932, a daughter of the late Walter Alcie Reid and Anna Wilson Reid. She was a 1951 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Co., having previously worked with Milliken and Co. Mrs. Smith was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, but was raised in Westside Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Garrison of the home, three sons, Reid B. Smith and wife Judy of Columbia, Curtis C. Smith, II of the home and Maxie R. Smith and wife Betty of Union; a sister, Eleanor Babb and husband Paul of Bishopville; 9 grandchildren, Scott Lawson, Brent Lawson, Nickie Aavik, Austin Smith, Jessica Branon, Heather Liveright, Brandon Smith, Jessica Leigh Williams and Kelly Tucker; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and her beloved pet dog, Missy. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by 5 brother and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith's grandsons. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Wallace Thomson Hospital and Blue Ridge Hospice for their care and concern of Mrs. Smith during her illness. The family will be at the home, 726 N. Duncan ByPass, Union.
