Walter Stuart "Bunt" Rider

Mr. Walter Stuart “Bunt” Rider, age 80 of 115 Morris Farm Rd., Jonesville, SC, husband of Paulette Collum Rider, passed away, Friday May 8, 2026 at Spartanburg Reginal Hospice Home after a brief illness.

Mr. Rider was born January 27, 1946, in Waynesville, NC, a son of the late John Clinton and Hester Woods Rider. He was owner and operator of his own plumbing business of over 30 years and presently employed with the Union County public works. Mr. Rider was a member of Tate Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and member of Men on a Mission Church group. Mr. Rider was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid hunter, he like to hunt for coon, turkey and deer.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Paula Riffey and husband, Lonnie of Whitmire; a son, Allen Rider of Jonesville; a sister Renea Corwin and husband Mark of Mayo. Mr. Rider is also survived by stepdaughters, Candice Ellis and husband, Barrett of Gaffney and Misty Collins of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Heather Varner, Kaitlin Holbert and husband Cody, Shelby Riffey and wife Lori, step grandchildren, Jordan Martin and wife Michaela, Austin Martin, Lucas Moore, Jarrett Poole, Brett Poole, John Riffey and a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mr. Rider was predeceased by his first wife of 55 years, Louise Rider, a brother, Brady Rider, twin sisters, Kathleen Carner and Irene Ennis, and another sister, Norma Poole.

A Celebration of Mr. Rider’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Tate Memorial Baptist Church, Pacolet, conducted by Rev. Dylan Styles. Burial will follow at Jonesville Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Active pallbearers will be, Shelby Riffey, Jordan Martin, Cody Clark, Barrett Ellis, Calvin King, and Bill Strickland.

Visitation will be 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

The family is at the home of his son, Allen Rider, 121 Morris Farm Road, Jonesville, SC.
