Mr. Wayne Ervin Hutcherson, age 84, husband of Janice Splawn Hutcherson, of 574 Bentley Town Road, Union, passed away, Friday, October 9, 2026, at Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff.

Mr. Hutcherson was born March 8, 1942, in Union, a son of the late L.C. Hutcherson and Sudie Pearl Keefer Hutcherson. He was a 1961 graduate of Union High School and attended Gardner-Webb College and Massey College in Atlanta. Mr. Hutcherson retired from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, where he dedicated his career to serving in the Law Enforcement Division. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era.

A man of strong faith and a devoted member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church, Mr. Hutcherson faithfully served his church in numerous capacities throughout the years. His dedication to the church and its congregation was evident through his service as a Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, Brotherhood Director, Youth Sunday School Teacher. His commitment to his faith and willingness to serve others were an important part of his life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jennifer H. Wright and husband Troy of Union and Audrey H. Robinson and husband Bryan of Union; four grandchildren, Amelia and Ian Wright and Thomas and Martin Robinson; and a brother, Cecil Hutcherson of Lyman.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, October 12, 2026, at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of Mt. Joy Baptist Church, Hal Garner, Phil Garner, Wayne Garner, Buddy Cudd, Eddie Rector, James Bright, Johnny Moore, Leland Comtios, and Chris Brotz. The following are asked to form the honorary escort, Terry and Olean Bentley and Eddie Gibson.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church, C/O the Building Fund, 657 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, SC 29353.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors of Family Hospice and Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff for their love and care of Mr. Hutcherson during his illness.
