Mr. Weldon Lane Eaves, age 83, husband of Ester Sue Crocker Eaves of 107 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2014. Mr. Eaves was born in Kelton, June 16, 1930, a son of the late Paul and Sibbie Morris Eaves. He was a graduate of Union High School, Spartanburg Junior College and Newberry College. Mr. Eaves retired from the South Carolina Department of Education and was a veteran of the US Army. A lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Mr. Eaves served in many offices of the church and was a member of the choir. Mr. Eaves was a member of the American Legion and Woodmen of the World. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Timothy Lane Eaves and wife Sheryl of Mayodan, NC; a daughter, Anita Smith and husband Whitney of Carlisle; three sisters, Essie Vinson, Kitty Vinson and Ann Sprouse all of Union; granddaughters, Carol Ouzts and husband Wade, Ashley Eaves, Daisy Smith, and Hannah Smith; grandsons, Randy Lane Eaves and wife Gabby and Daniel Smith; great-grandson, Harrison Ouzts and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Eaves was predeceased by brothers, Bill, Ed, Ralph and Jimmy Eaves and a sister Laura Comer. Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, May 26, 2014 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Donna Eidson. Active pallbearers will be William "Butch" Crocker, Stan Eaves, Ronnie Eaves, Robert Palmer, Mike Massey and Ronnie Crocker. The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Danny Comer, Harold Lewis, Tommy Eaves, Billy Gregory and James "Cotton" Eaves. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 PM Monday in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 373 Wesley Chapel Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 107 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union.
