July 8, 2014 Union, SC Mr. William Dennis Humphries, age 83, widower of Judy French Humphries, formerly of Barnado Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home. Mr. Humphries was born in Shelby, NC August 8, 1930, a son of the late Willie Lee Humphries and Vernie Horne Humphries. He was a graduate of Union High School and was the former owner of Humphries Bargain Center. Mr. Humphries was also the owner of Union Nursery and Landscaping and also Mine & Judy's Restaurant. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Humphries was a member of Union Church of God and was a former Scoutmaster Troup 220 Bethlehem Methodist. He was first married to the late Velda Geraldine Davis Humphries. Surviving are a son, Alan Dennis Humphries and wife Miriam of Soldotna, Alaska; three daughters: Connie H. Hardin and husband Mike of Union, Tammie H. Mace and husband Jerry of Wimanma, FL and Cassie Humphries of Union; three sisters: Carolyn McAbee, Patricia McAbee and Grace Parkins all of Union; three brothers: Richard T. Humphries, James W. Humphries and Harold Douglas Humphries all of Union; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Humphries was predeceased by a sister, Melva Lawson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Union Church of God conducted by Rev. Thomas Brown, Rev. Alton Stone and Rev. Milton Hannah. Burial will be in Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be Brian Hardin, Kevin Mace, Allen Mitchell, Mark Wade, Robert Walton and Billy McAbee. Former Scouts of Troup 220 Bethlehem United Methodist Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Union Church of God. Memorials may be made to Union Church of God, 1113 Thompson Blvd, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of his grandson, Brian Hardin, 1906 Cross Keys Hwy, Union.
