William Calhoun Whitmire, Jr.

January 22, 2019 Mr. William Calhoun "Billy" Whitmire, Jr, age 76, husband of Ruby Estes Whitmire of 295 Jones Ford Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home. Mr. Whitmire was born in Union, SC March 25, 1942, a son of the late William Calhoun Whitmire, Sr. and Elizabeth Vassey Whitmire. He was a graduate of Woodruff High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Whitmire retired from Laurens Commission of Public Works as a waste water treatment operator. He was a member of Padgett's Creek Baptist Church where he has served as a Deacon and Trustee. Mr. Whitmire was a member of Cross Anchor Masonic Lodge. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Beth Green and husband Rocky of Spartanburg; a son, William Calhoun "Bud" Whitmire, III of Union; a brother, Jesse Whitmire and wife Brenda of Union; two grandchildren: Kayla Green and Grace Green both of Spartanburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Whitmire was predeceased by a grandchild, Lou Anna Green. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Williams, John Williams, Kent Littlejohn, Charles Estes, David Pridemore, George Pridemore, and Don White. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM Thursday in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Padgett's Creek Baptist Church, 843 Old Buncombe Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home, 295 Jones Ford Rd., Union.
