Willie Edward (Ed). Greer Jr. of 611 Sardis Rd. Union SC peacefully went to his heavenly home on June 25, 2026.

Born March 6, 1939 in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Willie Edward Greer, Sr. and May Inez Holcombe Greer. He was the husband of the late Nina Carolyn Sinclair Greer.

Ed and Nina were blessed to raise four children; Edward Albert Greer (Angie), Suzan Greer Hall (Leo), Martha Sinclair (Henry), Vickie Sineath (Darren). He loved and adored his 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A graduate of Union High School, Mr. Greer attended Presbyterian College, Clemson University, and USC-U. He graduated from the Nashville Auto and Diesel College as well as Liberty College.

Mr. Greer worked as the Service Manager for B & H Motors in Union and at John Foster Ford in Easley. He began his teaching career at Lockhart High School and then continued at Union High School as an Automotive Instructor. He started the Co-op education program for the Union County Vocational School and was the coordinator for many years. He was the owner/operator of Fast Al’s Oil Change. Mr. Greer retired as a Chief Warrant Officer IV from the SC Army National Guard after 34 years of service.

Motor sports gave Mr. Greer the drive to succeed. He raced at Daytona International Speedway in the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Division and Goodies Dash Series several times. In 1963, Mr. Greer won the Georgia State Track Championship. He also won track championships at the Greenwood Speedway and the Newberry Racetrack. Mr. Greer was ranked 10th in the nation in 1963 and 1964 with the NASCAR late model sport series, later called the BUSCH series.

Inductions into three Hall of Fames include: Nashville Auto and Diesel College Hall of Fame in 1990, National Guard Warrant Officer Hall of Fame in 2010, Augusta Georgia NASCAR Raceway Hall of Fame in 2016.

Mr. Greer was a lifelong member of Sardis Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He was an active member of the Independent Garage Owners Association of Union County. Mr. Greer served on the Union County Airport Commission for 8 years.

A passion for farm animals and harvesting fresh vegetables kept him busy. Mr. Greer especially enjoyed having parties, entertaining and attending family gatherings. He loved his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 28, 2026, 5:00 pm at Sardis Methodist Church, Sardis Road, Union SC. Visitation will be from 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm prior to the service in the Sardis Church Family Life Center. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jeff Farmer. Burial with Military Honors will be in the church cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Sonny Grady, Roger Bailey, Sammy E. Smith, and Sammy Smith, Jerry Parks, Jackie Parks, Billy Wayne Scott, Jr., Tommy Bishop, Tommy Grady, Jon Grady, Rusty Young.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Maintenance Fund or Cemetery fund at Sardis Methodist Church, c/o Cynthia Yarbrough, 198 Deepwater Rd., Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at their respective homes.
