March 8, 2018 Mr. Willie Pruitt, age 89, husband Myrtle Quinn Pruitt of 164 Pineland Ave., Union, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Pruitt was born in Union July 9, 1928, a son of the late Mason and Pearl Owens Pruitt. He attended Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Pruitt was a retired welder from Beverage Air Co. in Spartanburg. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and a former Usher. Mr. Pruitt was also a former member of Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed baseball, music, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Pruitt was a member of a bluegrass band having played on WSPA with Jessie and James Pruitt, and with Don Reno and the Tennessee Cut-ups with Jimmy and Willie Pruitt. Surviving in addition to his wife of 64 years are two daughters, Deborah Johnson and husband Lynn and Susan Cochran and husband Pete all of Union; one brother, James "Jimmy" Pruitt and wife Estelle of Pauline; two grandchildren, Jonathan Johnson and Nicole Johnson Greer and husband Jim all of Union; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Greer and Addi Reese Greer both of Union. He was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn Pruitt and one brother, Bernard Pruitt. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 11, 2018 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Todd Davis and Rev. Ron Culbertson. Burial will follow at Lower Fair Forest Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wade Lanier, Ronald Heatherly, Jonathan Johnson, Rickey Forrester, David Pruitt, and Wofford Quinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny and Dottie Rogers, James and Sara Elizabeth Inabinet, Roger Harris, and Dean and Janet Brown. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church. The family is at the home, 164 Pineland Ave., Union, SC 29379.
