Mrs. Willie Pearl Worthy Carter, age 95, wife of the late A.G Carter, passed away in her home on Thursday, December 23rd, 2022
Willie was born on April 28th, 1927, in Lockhart, SC. She was the daughter of the late Gaither M. and Lee Annie Worthy. She was predeceased by her siblings, Richard Worthy, Hazel Worthy Bailey, Jetty Worthy Robinson, and Francis "Poncho" Worthy. Willie was a graduate of Lockhart High School, she was the last surviving member of the 1943 class. Willie attended Carson-Newman College where she earned her undergraduate degree in Education, and then earned a master's degree in Library Science. She was an English teacher at Lockhart High School, Fairforest High School, and later became the Librarian at Dorman High School, before retiring in 1992. Willie was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, where she served at the pianist, and was later a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and was a loyal customer of Holmes Hot Dogs in Spartanburg, SC. Willie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Willie is survived by her daughter, Jana Tillotson; son-in-law, Allen Helderman; daughter-in-law Debbie Carter (wife of the late Jay Carter); grandson Jason Carter and his wife Beth; grandson, Matthew Helderman and his wife Lexi; and granddaughter Cayce Helderman; and sister-in-law Betty Worthy (wife of the late Richard Worthy).
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 28th at 3:00pm, at Haney Cemetery.
