Anne Blair Bailey, 97, widow of Calvin Keith Bailey of 204 Catawba Street, Union, SC, went to her heavenly home on Monday, March 11, 2024, after a brief illness. Mrs. Bailey was a resident at The Inverness of Spartanburg Assisted Living Facility for the last two years.

Born May 5, 1926, Mrs. Bailey was the daughter of the late Franklin Andrew Blair and Laura Snyder Blair. She was the youngest of seven children and loved growing up in Lockhart, SC. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and graduated from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Bailey was a dedicated nurse throughout her career, serving as an industrial nurse in Lockhart Mill, working at Hope Hospital for a short tenure and then serving in the operating room at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She later assisted young mothers in the Family Planning program with the Union County Health Department until her retirement. Even well into her nineties, mothers would stop to thank Anne and share what her kindness had meant to them. In addition to her devoted service in health care, Mrs. Bailey volunteered in many capacities throughout the community. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in several circles over the years and in Presbyterian Women. She was a sustaining member of the Junior Charity League, a member of the DAR, UDC, the FCL Club, the Tuesday night bridge clubs for over forty years, and the Thursday morning bridge club. In their retirement years, Mrs. Bailey and her husband Keith served as greeters at Wallace Thomson Hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels and made weekly visits to the local nursing homes.

She is survived by son Calvin Keith Bailey, Jr. and his wife, Mary Kaye  of Walterboro; grandchildren Calvin Keith Bailey III (Trey) and wife Morgan of Summerville, Stewart Bailey and wife Kyla of Columbia, Jim Bailey of Walterboro; great-granddaughters  Holland Blair Bailey and Elaine Ivy Bailey of Summerville; nieces Sandra Blair West of Union, Jane Boyle Loyless of Spartanburg, Lu Anne Stokes (Tim) of Charlotte, Dale Goff (Larry) of Union; nephew Steven Blair Blackmon of New Orleans; special great-niece Blair Clementson (Charles) and children Abby, Charlotte, Charlie and great nephews, Andrew Wetmore (Leslie) and son Trent Wetmore (Haley) and son Camron of Union and Ben Moore (Kristen) of Lexington.  Mrs. Bailey also cherished her brother-in-law Neely Charles Bailey (Gail) who reside in Greenwood. She loved all her many nieces and nephews and delighted in spending time with her family.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, sisters Mary Willie Blair, Grace Blair Boyle, Sara Blair Blackmon; brothers Roy Franklin Blair, Horace Hugh Blair, and half-sister Avernell Blair Rush.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, March 15, 2024 in the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Trey Bailey and Reverend Sanders Read followed by a graveside service at Union Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include Stewart Bailey, Jim Bailey, Andrew Wetmore, Trent Wetmore, Ben Moore, Charles Clementson, Tim Stokes, and Larry Goff. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1pm. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Cheryl Henderson-Umbares and Crescent Hospice as well as all the caregivers at The Inverness of Spartanburg and Heartland Assisted Living in Union for your loving care over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels of Union.
