Billy McAbee Obituary

            Mr. William H. “Billy” McAbee, age 67, husband of Debra Ligon McAbee of 516 Old Pump Station Rd., Union passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home.

            Mr. McAbee was born in Gaffney, December 18, 1956, a son of the late Lewis E. and Carolyn Humphries McAbee. He was a grandson of the late Willie Lee and Vernie Horne Humphries and the late Roland and Dovie Peterson McAbee of Gaffney.

            Mr. McAbee retired from Daniel Construction Co. He loved working with his hands and could build anything. He was owner and operator of Carolyn’s Concessions where he ran an ice cream truck all over Union. He looked forward to the Union County Fair every year where he sold candy apples, cotton candy and boiled peanuts for over 40 years.

            He was a 1976 graduate of Union High School and he also served in the SC National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading books, eating out, traveling, working on cars, telling jokes, and helping others.

            Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, who he loved dearly, Billy Wade McAbee of the home; two brothers, Eddie McAbee and Timmy McAbee both of Union; and a sister, Kim Crocker and husband Perry of Union. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as cousins.

            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Hopewell Baptist Church, 511 Old Chester Rd., Blacksburg, SC 29702, conducted by Rev. Buddy Ligon. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

            Active pallbearers will be Kevin McAbee, Steven McAbee, Randy McAbee, Robbie McAbee, David Ligon, Brent Gregory, Perry Crocker and Robert Calhoun. Larry McAbee and Deannie Harris are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy McAbee Fund, PO Box 148, Union, SC, 29379.

            The family is at the home of his sister, Kim and Perry Crocker, 113 Bentley Town Rd., Union.
