Brenda Louise (Gillian) Ballard

Mrs. Brenda Louise Gillian Ballard, age 73, wife of Robert Wayne “Sid” Ballard, of 208 Westview Drive, Union, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ballard was born in Union, a daughter of the late James Henry Gillian, Sr. and Bonnie Lou Lovelace Gillian.  She was a 1967 graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College.  Mrs. Ballard was retired from the Textile Industry.  She was a member of New Life Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a Choir Member, was a part of the Food Ministry Program, and volunteered anywhere there was a need at the Church.  Mrs. Ballard was a member of the Northern Star.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three special nephews, James Calvin Gillian of Spartanburg, who was reared in the home, Ted and Tommy Lowe both of Union; a special niece, Cindy Shetley and husband Dennis of Union; two sisters, Shirley Michaud of New York and Delores Lowe and husband John of Union; a brother, James Henry Gillian, Jr. of Ninety Six; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Manley and two brothers, Alvin and Calvin Gillian.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 8, 2021 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Ron Culberson, and Mr. Rick Dupree.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie Vinson, Jeff Benson, Todd Davis, Jim Greer, Dennis Shetley, and Dennis Donnahoo.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.           

Memorials may be made to the New Life Baptist Church, C/O Building Fund, 502 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379.

The family is at the home of her niece, Cindy and Dennis Shetley, 137 Velda Dr., Union, SC 29379.
