Mr. Colon J. Duckett, age 89, of 144 Bates Ave. Ext., Union, was welcomed into his heavenly home by his wife on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Mr. Duckett was the widower of Maxine Vaughan Duckett, the love of his life.
Mr. Duckett was born in Ninety Six, SC, January 10, 1934, a son of the late Dillard J. Duckett, Sr. and Mary Dill Duckett. He was a graduate of Union High School where he excelled in all sports and was one of the first inductees into the Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Duckett retired after many years from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing.
He was a faithful member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was currently the oldest living member. He served his church as a Deacon and was a member of the Donnie Warren Sunday School Class. He was a longtime resident of the Monarch community where he had many friends and always enjoyed helping others in need.
Surviving are three daughters, Lynn Austin and husband Mike, Kaye Sinclair and husband Lynn all of Union, and Beth Brown and husband Amory of Anderson; a brother, Dennis Duckett and wife Pat of Cowpens; two granddaughters, Wendy Cook and husband William and Jamie Duncan all of Union; two grandsons, Shannon Austin and Travis Austin both of Union; five great-grandchildren, Brett Gruver, Elizabeth Johnson, Emma Brown, Caleb Austin, and Gage Martin; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Duckett was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Moore and three brothers, Gene Duckett, Fred Duckett and Dillard Duckett, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Aubrey Calver, Rev. Larry Plyler and Rev. Brad Goodale.
Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be Mr. Duckett’s grandsons and nephews.
