David Vaughan, Sr. Obituary

David Stephen Vaughan, Sr. went home to glory on April 6, 2022.  David Sr. was born April 8, 1953, in Union, South Carolina, to the late Henry and Grace Vaughan.  Upon graduation from Union High School in 1971, he joined the United States Army in 1972 and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne and Artillery Division.  David Sr. was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army in 1983. While he was stationed in Lawton, Oklahoma, David Sr. met the love of his life, Ollie Mae Hill.  They quickly fell in love and got married in Union, South Carolina, on February 17, 1978.  While married, David Sr. and Ollie had three wonderful children, David Jr., Jessica, and Brandon.  David Sr. understood the importance of education and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1986. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of Union Masonic Lodge No. 75.  David Sr. joined the United States Postal Service in 1981, where he thrived and ultimately became postmaster of Clinton, Gaffney and Woodruff, South Carolina.  David Sr. retired from the United States Army Reserves as a captain in 1997.  David Sr. was a football official for the South Carolina Football Officials Association and enjoyed spending many Friday nights on the football field.  David Sr. retired from the United States Postal Service in July of 2018.  David Sr. later pursued his lifelong dream and opened Vaughan Automotive in Union, South Carolina, in 2020.  David Sr. always enjoyed being around and working on cars, and he understood the importance of serving his community.

David Sr. is survived by his soulmate of 44 years, Ollie Mae Vaughan; their children, David Stephen Vaughan, Jr. (Jill Bishop Vaughan), Jessica Vaughan Root, and Brandon Kyle Vaughan (Leslie Belue Vaughan); and his sister, Shirley Vaughan Lawson.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Wayne Vaughan (Mary Eugenia Aiken Vaughan); his father, Henry Irving Vaughan; and his mother, Grace Elizabeth Sanders Vaughan.  David Sr. adored his five grandchildren, Cooper Stephen Vaughan, Cole Irving Vaughan, Aaron Michael Root, Virginia Grace Root, and Garrison Kyle Vaughan.  David Sr. always said if he knew having grandchildren was so much fun, he would have had them first.
