Mrs. Evelyn Duckett “Duck” Richbourg, age 94, of 208 Spruce St., Union, widow of William W. Richbourg, passed away, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at her home.
Mrs. Richbourg was born in Greenwood, April 25, 1926, a daughter of the late Lucie VeRelle Duckett and Earl Clyde Duckett. She attended Lander College where she majored in Physical Education and minored in Science and then went on to graduate from Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mrs. Richbourg started her teaching career at Connie Maxwell Childrens Home in Greenwood as a P.E. Teacher and then relocated to Union and became the first Women’s Basketball Coach at Union High School. She later started teaching Physical Science and Biology and retired from Union High School after 32 years of service. She was an avid nature and bird lover and was a member of the Cornell School of Ornithology Feeder Watch Program for more than 20 years. Mrs. Richbourg was a Surviving are two daughters, Jean R. Guess of Columbia and Ann R. Palmer and husband Jerry of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Chandler Guess and Cullen Guess both of Black Mountain, NC, Clayton Palmer and wife April of Estero, FL and Daniel Palmer and wife Megan of Seneca; four great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Palmer, Nicholas Palmer, Tristan Palmer, and Liam Palmer; two sisters, Wilma Lomas of Columbia, and Earlene Readett of Greenwood; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice, Susan Waller, Kathy Cudd, and Julie Allen for their kindness, support, and loving care over the last year.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 22, 2021 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Chaplain Bryan Redding.
The family will receive friends according to COVID Guidelines following the services at the cemetery.
