Mr. H.A. “Buck” Vinson of Union, South Carolina, widower of Bessie Gibson Vinson, passed away on July 1, 2021. Buck was born on February 21, 1932, in Union to Thomas Jefferson Vinson and Mamie Mitchell Vinson. Mr. Vinson was predeceased by sisters Gertrude V. Duckett and Corrine V. Hart and brothers, Jeff Vinson, Tom Vinson, J.E. Vinson, Jake Vinson and Jack Vinson. He was the youngest child and was the last surviving sibling.
He is survived by four daughters: Cynthia Vinson Williams (Ira Braxton “I.B.”) of Lincolnton, NC, Anita Vinson Carson (Carl III “Trey”) of Alexandria, VA, Kaye Vinson Driggers (Tim) of Irmo, SC, and Lori Ann Vinson Summers (Ashley Collier) of Columbia, SC. He has seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Buck began his career at the age of 15 employed by Milliken and Company at Monarch Mill and advanced to the position of Plant Manager. He also worked several years as a textile executive with United Merchants, serving a total of 50 years in the textile industry.
He served as a Medic in the South Carolina National Guard for 30 years. He was an early member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church and served as a Deacon at Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Buck was an avid Gamecock sports fan and enjoyed golfing. He was a catcher for the Ottaray Mill baseball team in the Carolina Textile League and continued his baseball career for many years, eventually playing on various adult softball teams.
Visitation to receive friends will be Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 5:00 PM at Mon Aetna Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Mon Aetna Baptist Church with burial following at Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will be at the Vinson home, 106 Walker Heights, Union, from Friday, July 9th through Sunday, July 11th .
Active pallbearers will be Stanley Vinson, Wayne Vinson, Conley Trammell, Matthew Goodfellow, Randy George and Kevin Smith.
Members of the Thomas Alexander Sunday School class, his Bojangles’s Coffee Friends, and The Heart of Hospice from Columbia are asked to sit in a group.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the H.A. “Buck” Vinson Baseball Scholarship.
