Herbert Heatherly Obituary

Mr. Herbert William Heatherly joined his loving wife and his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 12, 2022.  He was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Sunie Henson Heatherly, born June 10, 1928 in Union County.  He was married to Bernice Knight Heatherly for 72 years before she passed away this past September.

Mr. Heatherly retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant, as general overseer, after many years of service and dedication.  Several young family members and friends learned life lessons, working under his guidance, both in the mill and on his farm.  He served on the board for the Meansville Riley Road Water Company and was a mason.  He and his wife donated land to the Buffalo Fire Department and were instrumental in having the Putman Fire House built.  He faithfully served his church, West Springs Baptist, where he was a deacon and Sunday School Teacher.  He also served on numerous committees through the years.  He loved his church and community and was actively involved in many different capacities as long as his health allowed.

He is survived by a sister, Aileen Quinn of West Springs and one brother, Rev. Broadus Heatherly (Edith) of Shelby, NC.  He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, David Knight of Union and Walter Knight of Hillsboro, NC.  While he and his wife had no children of their own, they lovingly cared for their many nieces and nephews and were dearly loved, by them, in return.  He was predeceased by five siblings, Jesse Heatherly, Lucinda Arnold, S.J. Heatherly, Joseph Paul Heatherly, Jr., and Ralph Heatherly.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 4:00 PM at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Greg Black and Rev. Dr. Henry Johnson.  Visitation will follow immediately following the services at the cemetery.

We would never be able to mention the names of all the sweet family members and friends who have helped, prayed, and visited Herbert during the past months.  Please know that we love and appreciate all of you.  We would also like to thank the staff at Heartland of Union for your love and care.  May God bless each and every one of you.

Contributions may be made to the Cemetery Fund of West Springs Baptist Church, 4811 Buffalo West Springs Hwy., Pauline, SC 29374.

The family will be at the home of his sister, Aileen Quinn.
