Mr. James Frank “Blackie” Blackwood, age 98, a resident of Baton Rouge for 56 years, passed away on March 10, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Blackwood was born in Cherokee County, SC on April 7, 1922 a son of the late George Lifus Blackwood and Mamie Buice Blackwood. Blackie was always a proud veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. His entire career was in the electrical industry, working in Houston and Beaumont, TX, and Baton Rouge. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Carol Blackwood.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Blackwood and Peggy Claypool both of Baton Rouge; a son Keith Blackwood and wife Jan of Beaumont, TX; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Blackwood, Kenny Blackwood, Chancen Blackwood, Bill Jamison, Marvin Duncan and Robert Bentley.
The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Harold Fowler, Pat Buice, Rick Carlisle and Henry Evans.
The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.
