Mr. James Cary Hughes, age 82, of 818 Tucker Town Rd., Carlisle, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Laxton Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was born in Spartanburg Co., April 24, 1939, a son of the late Jim and Edith Crook Hughes. He retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing after 51years. Mr. Hughes was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee and sang in the choir for a number of years. He was a loving and caring person who enjoyed hunting, fishing and had a passion for gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Mitchell of the home; three sisters, Carolyn Hughes of Union, Linda Wardell and Debbie Frey and husband Jim all of Enoree; two grandsons, James Eric DePratter and William Tyler Mitchell both of Carlisle; special friends, Joyce King and Bobby Senn both of Whitmire and Alfred Walker of Santuck; and his great-grand furbabies Sam and Bandit. Mr. Hughes was predeceased by a twin sister, Mary Edith Jolly and sisters, Hazel Hodges, Barbara Hughes and Brenda Moore and brothers, John Hughes and Gerald Hughes.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Spartanburg Regional Hospice and Kindred Hospice especially to Jessica and Marie for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Hughes during his illness.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will follow at Kelly’s Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Henderson, Alex Fuller, Bill Farmer, Bobby Senn, Tony Leo, Jeff Hannon, Hubert Bryson and Carl Bryson.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the service.
The family will be at the home, 818 Tucker Town Rd., Union.
