Mr. James Newton Porter, age 95, of 4058 Mt. Pleasant Church Rd., Chester, widower of Stella Childers Porter, passed away Monday October 4, 2021, at MUSC, Chester.
Mr. Porter was born in Union, June 30, 1926, a son of the late John and Nannie Louise Robbins Porter. He was retired from Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant and Springs Industries in Chester. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. Mr. Porter was a member of Wilksburg Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Director. He was a member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge and a Master mason.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary Susan Porter of Chester; three sons, R.P.S. (Steve) Porter and wife Kathy and James D. Porter and wife Teresa all of Chester, and Kenneth Wayne Porter and wife Molly of Lockhart; five sisters, Mary Jo Ivey, Katherine Harris, Patricia Enix and husband Bobby, and Linda Stephenson and husband Francis all of Chester, and Peggy Henderson of York; eleven grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Porter was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Brunet and a brother, John Henry Porter.
The family will have a private service and burial at a later date.
